If you have been a victim of crime then you know how traumatic the occurrence is in your life. Regardless of how minimal the police, friends, family or neighbors respond to what has happened to you, or even if you have a received a tremendous amount of support you are left feeling as if your reality has shifted and you no longer feel safe. You may begin to feel anxious, angry, stressed, sad, afraid, paranoid, or depressed. You may now feel extra sensitive to what people are saying to you and may feel that no one really understands the way you feel. You may feel that you can't cope with the normal responsibilities of your daily life, which before you completed without effort. You may feel the need to drink, smoke or take medications more than usual, just to find a moment of relief from the pain. You may be having flashbacks to the crimes, nightmares and a loss of appetite, or you just may not be feeling your self anymore and have no idea if you will ever feel yourself again.
