Intuition is not just for the mystics, psychics, gypsies or yogis, intuition is a a fundamental function of your parasympathetic nervous system taking place in your body and registering in your brain. It fundamentally arises from the amygdala in the hypocampus in the primal region of the brain. The primal area of your brain is the oldest part of the evolutionary brain and can be traced back millions of years to prehistoric man. This area of the brain contains the "Flight or Fight" response and was necessary for early man, the hunter and gatherer to survive. This area of response can easily be seen in animals especially if you have a fury friend, on all fours, faced with what he perceives to be a threatening situation. In a Flight of Fight response, receptors sent form the primal brain flood the parasympathetic and central nervous system to respond. This is where the term "gut feeling or gut instinct" arises from. The stomach is lined with an incredible amount of receptors going to the brain, sending messages back and forth. In a perceived threat, messages are being sent to the stomach to temporarily inhibit the digestive system so blood may rush to your limbs activating the Flight or Fight response. As time has evolved we no longer require the ability to hunt, gather, or be warned of danger as our lives have changed so much, many issues occur as a result of an over active amygdala. Anxiety is the result of an over active amygdala. One of the nicer effects of a stimulated amygdala is the ability to use your intuition, gut feeling in an applied way to imporve your decision making in your life.
